Badrinath Yatra 2024: Ticket Price, Booking, Char Dham Registration, Timings, Accomodation, How to Reach

Badrinath temple is located at a height of 3100m. During the 8th century, sage Adi Shankaracharya put up the Badrinath temple. 

The Badrinath Temple also known as the Badrinarayan temple is located in the Garhwal Himalayas on the banks of Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand. 

Badrinath temple is open six months a year and remains closed in winter due to rain and snowfall. 

In the temple right opposite Badri Narayan is his vehicle, the bird Garud being seated with hands folded. The temple has Garbhagriha where you can find idols of Lord Badri Narayana which is about one meter high and other idols of Kuber (God of wealth), Narad Rishi, Udhava, Nar, and Narayan. 

Badrinath temple is open from May till November. However, it is very crowded in May - July. In the year 2024, the Badrinath Temple is open from May 12 and will close on November 9, 2024 (Tentative).

Badrinath Temple Timings 

The temple is closed in the afternoon for 4 hours. It is suggested that you start your darshan in the evening as it is less crowded during the evening when compared to the mornings. Try taking darshan around 8 PM for faster darshan.

Badrinath Trip Plan 

  • When you are planning to visit Badrinath temple, always keep at least 3 days in hand to complete your trip. 
  • You will need 1 day to reach from Haridwar / Rishikesh to Badrinath. (Hotels required for stay)
  • On the second day, you can start your darshan and Badrinath tour keeping at least a day in mind. 
  • 3rs day you will be required to travel back from Badrinath to Rishikesh or Haridwar.

How to Register Online

Step 2: Registration for self/ Tour operator/ Self and family. 

Step 3: Enter personal details like name, mobile number, and password to complete sign-up. 

Step 4: Once signed up, now you can log in with the Mobile no. and password you created to start your registration. 

Step 5: Register with anime and ID Proof and keep the QR Code downloaded. 

Step 6: When you reach Badrinath, there are various centers available from where you can show your QR Code and get your token. 


Points to Remember 

  • There are Pithus available on the way to reach the Badrinath Temple. You can take pithus for Rs. 800 - 1000. 
  • During the Yathra you can also get free food and Bhandara at various places like Shesh Netra Ashram and others. 
  • Registration is mandatory before visiting the Temple. 
  • Once registered online, show the QR Code at the ticket counters near the temple and collect your token no. to start your darshan yatra. 
  • Before darshan, you must take a dip at the Tapt Kund near the temple. 
  • Once you come out of Badrinath temple you can also visit other small temples right outside.

Restaurants in Badrinath 

There are various small restaurants and shops available near the temple. There is a small market on the way towards Badrinath temple where you can have snacks or food at a convenient price. You can have food from an ashram near the temple where it is free of cost. 


Places to Visit Near Badrinath 

  • Vishnu Padukao- It is said that Badrinath yatra is completed only after you visit Vishnu Paduka. You will have to walk 1.5 - 2 km to reach the temple. The view is very pretty with a waterfall. 
  • Mana Village- It is about 4 km away from Badrinath. The road passes through glaciers on both sides. You can take your private cars or shared cabs to get here. There is a Ganesh Gufa, Saraswati Mandir you can visit.
  • Bheem Pul in Mana Village: When Pandavas lived here they saw the Saraswati river and didn't know how to cross it. Then Bheem picked a large rock and kept it above the Saraswati river thereby making way to cross the river. Since then it's called the Bheem Pul.

  • There are various hotels available near the temple you can book for your stay. Hotels can be booked from Rs. 1000 onwards. 
  • Dharamshala can also be booked for about Rs. 400
  • The dormitory can also be booked for Rs. 500 per person. 
  • Guest House of BKTC can be booked at Badrinath. 


How to reach Badrinath Temple 

Note that it is most convenient to reach Badrinath from Haridwar. As there are direct buses available and private taxis you can book as per your budget. You can get your private car. Bus service to Badrinath is available from Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Joshimut only.

Haridwar to Badrinath (310 km)

Bus- You can take a bus from Haridwar Railway Station to Badrinath for Rs. 800 - 1000. The bus will depart at 3 or 4 am in the morning and arrive at Badrinath by 5 - 6 pm in the evening. (Timings may differ)

Taxi/ Cab - You can also book a private taxi to reach Badrinath temple. They would charge you Rs. 5000 -6000

Shared Taxi- You can take shared taxis, but they will be available from Haridwar to Joshi Mutt only. From Joshi Mutt you will have to take another shared taxi to reach Badrinath. This can cost you about Rs. 1000 - 120 per person. 


Dehradun to Badrinath (317 km)

By Bus- You can take a bus from Dehradun to reach Rishikesh / Haridwar first it is about 40 - 50 km. From there you can take another bus to reach Badrinath. 

By Helicopter- You can also book a private charter to reach Badrinath from Dehradun and complete the trip in one day. Booking can be done by various agents. It can cost up to Rs. 1,50,000.

Q: What is the best time to visit Badrinath Temple?

A: Badrinath temple opens in May and closes in November. In the starting months, the temple is overly crowded. Hence, it is suggested to visit the temple from September to October. 


Q: Is the trek to Badrinath difficult?

A: In comparison to other char Dhams, Badrinath is easy to reach. The walking is less to reach the Badrinath temple. The roads are also well-connected and developed. 


Q: Is mobile phones allowed inside the temple? 

A: Mobile phones can be taken inside Badrinath kapat. However, cameras are not allowed to be used when inside. if done so you will fined Rs. 500.
