Amarnath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is open only during Shravan Mas from June to August. In Amarnath, Lord Shiva is formed naturally of ice in a cave. The Amarnath cave is situated at an altitude of about 3888 meters in Jammu and Kashmir.
Every year millions of devotees visit the Amarnath temple by trekking called Amarnath Yatra.
The Amarnath Yatra is open from July to August and usually takes about 3-5 days to reach the Amarnath Temple from the base. You can reach Amarnath by two routes - Baltal or Pahalgam.
Baltal is considered to be a short trek but steeper and tougher, while the Pahalgam route is longer and is preferred by the devotees. You can also book helicopters in advance for the Amarnath yatra.
This year the Amarnath Yatra begins on June 29 and will close on August 19, 2024
