Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga is an ancient shrine situated 150 km away from Pune in the ghat region of Sahyadri hills in Bhorgiri village 50 km North West of Khed, near Pune. Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga is the most well-known of the twelve Jyotirlingas. It is the most attractive and religious place because of the Sanctuary and the pleasant atmosphere.

Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Temple is the most renowned jyotirlinga after the declaration of Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary. It's also a part of Western Fauna. 

The source river of Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Temple is the Bhima River, which is known as Chandrabhaga in Pandharpur. As the name of the river is Bhima, the Jyotirlinga Temple got its name from the river itself Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga. It is believed that the river evaporated due to the war between Lord Shiva and the demon Tripurasura.
