The Shri Kamakshi Temple is a historic and beautiful temple located in the picturesque village of Shiroda, Goa. Built in the late 16th century, this temple is known for its architectural beauty, religious significance, and vibrant festivals. The temple is crowded during the Amavasya.
About the temple: The temple complex, known as 'Sthal' or 'Thal', is accessed through a huge Mahadwar (temple gate). An octagonal, two-storied tower crowns the main temple with a golden Kalash on its peak. It features a large Sabha Mandap (entrance hall), a tall Deepasthambh (lamp tower), and a holy water tank. The main deity, Shri Kamakshi, resides in the Gabhara (Sanctum Sanctorum). The temple also houses other deities like Shri Vetal, Shri Kalbhairav, Shri Rayeshwar (Lord Shiva), Shri Lakshminarayana (Lord Vishnu with Goddess Laxmi), and Shri Shantadurga.
