Ammapalli Temple History
Ammapalli temple was built by Vengi kings between the 11th and 13th centuries. The main attraction here is the 90-foot-high Gali Gopuram. It is believed that Charminar was built considering this place as an inspiration.Â
Single granite and limestone mortar were used in the construction of the load-bearing structures of the temple. The Prahari walls around Gali Gopuram symbolize both Hindu and Islamic architecture. There is a koneru - a stone-faced water tank with steps around it.Â
You can spot two mandapams present near Koneru. One of the mandapams symbolizes Hindu architecture and the other symbolizes Afghan architecture. The main highlight of this temple is the main deity was chiseled from a single stone which is rarely seen in India.
The other attractions in the temple are as follows:
- Nagar Khana is the place where the musicians play the music during Sri Rama Navami, the wedding of Sri Ram and Seeta.
- Radha Sthalam is the place built for parking vehicles that carry idols during the festivals in the village.
- Kooram is the tortoise incarnation of Maha Vishnu which symbolizes stability and long life. It is believed that Kooram in the temple makes it stable and long-standing.
- Vimana Gopuram is the structure built over the main deity.Â
