Kattil Mekkathil Temple is situated in the Ponmana Village in Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali. Local People refer goddess Bhadrakali as "Meettu Meekkathil Amma". In this temple devotees in their prayers tied the bell to the Banyan tree which is in the Temple courtyard after telling the goddess their wishes. The ringing of bells in the temple courtyard everyday is said to be the confirmation of your wish. It is an ancient temple located on the isle between backwaters and Arabian Sea. There are other deities like Ganapathy, Durga Devi and Yakshiyamma in the temple.

Kattil Mekkathil Temple Legends

It is said that in 1781 AD, Maharaja Marthanda Varma had a dream while returning from King of Odonadu. He saw a visage of Goddess appearing in the west horizon and then disappeared in Sea. This happened on the day of star Pooyam in the month of Pousha.  Maharaja went to that place and meditated there after seeing the glimpse of goddess he declared that this place has power of goddess. He built the temple and also a palace near the temple on the bank of lake for his family so that they can stay there whenever they come to worship the goddess. 

Kattil Mekkathil Temple Festivals

There is 12 day feast during Malayalam month of Vrishchikam which is around November or December attracts thousands of devotees from Kerala and neighbouring states. Tents are put up in the courtyard for the comfort of devotees.

How to Reach Kattil Mekkathil Temple

Devotees can reach there through the jankar jetty. They can be taken from one and a half kilometers towards the North West from the Shankaramangalam Junction on the NH 66 between Kollam and Alapuzha.

For those who come from Kayamkulam or Karunagapally, there is a road that goes one and a half k.m to the west on the northern side of the KMML Company to the south of the Edapally  Kotta junction
