Keesaragutta Temple: Timings, Tickets, History, Pooja

Keesaragutta Temple is a temple dedicated to lord Shiva and his companions Bhavani and Siva Durga. It is located on a hill in Keesara Village in Rangareddy District of Hyderabad. This temple is also known as Swamy Ramalingeshwara Temple. This temple attracts thousands of followers every day. Keesaragutta temple is located 35 km from Hyderabad and it is well connected with roads.

Keesaragutta Temple History

This temple holds significance as according to the legends, Lord Rama after killing Ravana, worshipped here for seeking forgiveness for the killing of Brahim. He selected the valley for the installation of Shivalingam and sent Lord Hanuman to get the Shivalingam. However Hanuman got late and as auspicious time for installing the shivalingam is near, Lord Shiva appears before Rama and present him Shivalingam to install. For this reason this shivalingamis also known as Savyambhu as well as Ramalingeswara.

After the installation lord Hanuman returns to Shri Rama with 101 shivalingam to choose from for the installation. Hanuman got sad as the shivalingam brought by is not used for the installation. He threw all the shivalingam on the ground. Many of the shivalingam are still found on the surface of the temple.

Lord Rama calmed down the lord Hanuman, and said that you will be worshipped first here at this temple. He also named the Hill as Kesarigiri on the one of names of Lord Hanuman as he was the son of Kesari.
