Veerabhadra Swamy Temple: Timings, History, Pooja, Ticket Price

Located in Mylapore, Veerabhadra Swamy Temple is 650 m from Kapaleeswarar Temple. It is dedicated to Lord Sri Veerabhadra Swamy. The temple faces North with an arch at the entrance.

The arch of the temple has a stucco image of Veerabhadrar, along with a small goat-headed Daksha. A separate shrine for Goddess Abhayambikai is present near the sanctum. Veerabhadra Swamy Temple History

Veerabhadra Swamy Temple is believed to be 100 to 200 years old. It is said that the place where the Moolavar was discovered is the spot where the temple exists. The moolavar dates back to Chozha/ Pallava period.

A mythological story states that Dhaksha, Goddess Parvathi's father performed Yaga here. He did not invite Lord Shiva to the Yaga. The goddess got angry, and she argued with her father who did not listen to her.

She entered the Yaga Gundam, cursing everybody who performed the Yaga. It angered Lord Shiva, who plugged his air and created Veerabhadra to destroy the Yaga. Veerabhadra succeeded in it and fitted a goat’s head to Dhaksha after chopping his head.
