Sri Peddamma Talli Temple: Timings, History, Pooja Cost

Located in Jubilee Hills, Sri Peddamma Talli Temple is famous in Hyderabad. The main deity here is Goddess Lakshmi. It is constructed in the style of South Indian Architecture. Intricate carvings on the pillars show the story and images of Hindu Religious epics here.

The devotees believe that placing a coin vertically in this temple can fulfill their wish. The Telugu word “Peddamma” means mother of mothers. Other deities here are Saraswati, Ganesh, and Naga Devatha. Devotees follow a custom of offering only coconuts to the Goddess here.

Sri Peddamma Talli Temple History

The temple is believed to be 150 years old as per the historical records. There is a mythological story that the Goddess landed here to relieve her thrust from the well after destroying the demon.

Later, a shepherd found her idol, and the temple was constructed in the same place. Another story states that Mahishasura, a demon with a water buffalo head got many boons. One of them was not to be harmed or killed by Gods or men.

He considered women as weak and excluded them while asking for a boon. So, Goddess Durga came with the blessing from the supreme trinity of gods and killed him violently providing relief to the Gods and humans.

She is worshipped here as Peddamma, the mother who turned into a savior by pitying on her suffering children. The Goddess here remains as the one who is seated on the roaring lion.
