History of this temple is associated with Kali Mata. It is belived that she was born at this place in Delhi in Satyug. According to the legends, ages ago this place was home of various gods and these gods were disturbed by couple of demons. All these gods went to God Brahma for the solution and Brahma ji send all the gods to Devi Parvati. These gods prayed to Devi and pleased by the prayers Devi Parvati brought another Goddess "Devi Kaushki" out from here. Devi Kaushki killed all the demons.

However there is boon to these demons as there blood spills on Earth this will give birth to thousands of demon similar to them. It was a difficult task for Devi Kaushki to kill them without spilling the blood of those demons. So Ma Parvati brought out her another incarnation Devi Kali.

Devi Kali has special powers as she can change her size according to the situation. Devi Kali opens her mouth in such enlarge state as her upper lip reached the sky and lower lip touched the foot hills of Aravalli. With this Devi Kali was able to drink all the blood of demons that were killed by Devi Kaushki.
